Year In Review | 2022 - Part I | Kendal + Kevin | Calgary Wedding Photographers

We have never had a year like this. Moving from the uncertainty and intimate nature of the last couple years to full-on celebration party mode... It was a big shift.

This past year pushed us... physically, mentally, creatively. All of it. It was a year of growth and one of testing our limits. The 2022 season was larger than life, it was big and beautiful and jam packed with joy-filled celebrations. We photographed 38 weddings this year, more than ever before, with plenty of travel thrown in. We had a couple of amazing multi-day celebrations and got to connect with many new vendors we haven't had the opportunity to work with before. This year took us on a ton of new adventures, we travelled all over Alberta, British Columbia and even to faraway places like Iceland (pretty sure we still haven't fully digested the magic of that trip!) We were lucky to have had many beautiful moments together as a couple... albeit, most of them driving on the highway watching the sun rise or set.

All this moving and shaking did feel like it took a bit of a toll  on our parenting skills this year. Brighton, who turned 5 this past year spent a lot of his summer with his grandparents. He has absolutely no complaints as he gets totally spoiled by everyone (Grandma, Grandpa, Mimi and Pa!) but we had some guilt creeping in when he learned to ride his bike last summer while we were away at a wedding. He also started kindergarten last fall and has been keeping us busy behind the scenes. We love our lives and we can't imagine a job we adore more, truly. We give our all to every couple and every wedding day and I'm pretty sure that's why we were feeling a little burnt out towards the end of the year.

This coming season, we hope to have a bit more balance. We have actually decided to spend the month of July on Vancouver Island. We still plan to do some shooting and have a few open weeks if anyone wants to plan an elopement in Tofino (our favourite place!) or elsewhere on the Island, or even a family shoot! But we do hope to chill a bit more this coming summer, to live a little slower and connect with all our people and ourselves again. With that, we feel re-energized about the coming 2023 season and everything it's going to bring! First... a look back at the last 12 months:
