Kendal + Kevin | Calgary Husband and Wife Photographers

ENDLESS WANDERERS, SERIOUS PICNICKERS + RED WINE DRINKERS

Hey guys, I’m Kendal and that tall guy under me is my husband, Kevin. We are based on the edge of the Canadian Rockies in Calgary, Alberta. We are lifestyle photographers who capture life and love just as we see it - nothing overdone, over-processed or over-posed. We love to explore and are equally inspired by passionate people and the great outdoors.

It's been awhile so we feel it's time to share a little more about ourselves and give you an insider’s look at K+K. We’ve been using the following 3 questions as a way to get to know our clients and so we figured we would flip things around and put ourselves in the spotlight.

1. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?

Kevin: Any of the Nordic countries. Our stop in Iceland a couple of years ago has me hooked!

Kendal: Canada! Haha. I’ve travelled a lot but really feel that I haven’t seen enough of my own country. I’d love to visit some of the Atlantic Provinces, the east coast looks beautiful!

2. What’s your favourite place to eat in YYC?

Kevin: Notable. Kendal took me out for my birthday one year and it’s been my favourite ever since.

Kendal: This is a tough one, but if I had to choose I would say Anju (I was heartbroken when the old location shut, but luckily it was only temporary). Second place would be Sidewalk Citizen Bakery... you can find us there most mornings.

3. What’s your go-to song/artist at the moment?

Kevin: The National. Hard to resist those silky smooth vocals.

Kendal: The XX for me. I’m pretty obsessed with their latest album ‘I See You’.

There’s a quick look at us - travel, music + food are three pretty key parts in who we are. But what about photography?

Why are there TWO of you?

Well, it's quite simple - we started shooting as a couple and have never stopped. Now we couldn’t see it any other way. We’re both able to ‘run the show’ but we work best as a team. You could say we’re that annoying married couple that just ‘gets’ each other and we bounce ideas off one another on the fly. Plus, you get two unique perspectives throughout the entire day.

Any tips for choosing a wedding photographer?

Actually...We have an entire guide devoted to finding the right photographer for your wedding. Everyone is different and finding your perfect match is key.

Just head to kendalandkevin.ca/kk-guide and put on your reading pants :)

How do you deal with bad weather during your shoots?

We don’t. Haha! Truthfully, we always come up with a ‘plan b’ but we almost never use it. Instead, we encourage our couples to embrace the weather, no matter how scary that sounds. Wind, rain, snow... all good stuff. If you have a beautiful outdoor space and there’s a chance of rain, grab an umbrella. It will help define your day and your photos will be stunning!

What would be your ‘ideal’ Wedding to shoot?

Our ideal wedding could take many forms and shapes as we really love when couples follow their own unique vision! That said, we’re always excited about a small, intimate ceremony outdoors - with friends and family united for the day. Simple, yet elegant. (And oh yeah, good food is a must!)
